This past Saturday was the CIF Track Finals at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC). I was there on behalf of the Long Beach Gazette to cover our Moore League participants. Field events started at 10:30am and I was there ready to go at 10am, making for the beginning of a very long and hot day.
When I first started photographing sports action I would tell people my favorite sport to cover was girls softball, and although I still love to cover it track has become my favorite to shoot. When I'm on the track field I'm like a kid in a candy store. There is just so much going on all around you that sometimes I just don't know where to start. well that's not entirely true, but you get the idea.
So while I waited for athletes from the Moore League to do their thing I moved from one event to the next to get various shots. When doing this I'm looking for those athletes who excel in the event their competing in to give me my peak action shots. I not only look for peak action, but expression, or simply a look. Like this first shot of a female long jumper from Sera High. I loved their uniforms and the Superman S on the front of their jerseys. Made for a visually nice shot.
Just for the record, I started my day at 8:30am (leaving the house) and ended it at 9pm (arriving back home). I was actually at Mt. SAC from 10am to about 7pm. So take a look and hopefully you'll enjoy the shots as much as I did taking them.
