The wetlands is a place where I can relax and get away from the day to day issues, I'm at peace while waling around the wetlands as well as when I'm simply sitting in a spot watching the wildlife go about their lives.
Well on November 15 my mother lost her battle with Cancer and left us. Over the next couple of weeks myself, my sisters, as well as my brother have been spending a lot of time with our dad to let him know he's loved and were here for him during this time, because no matter how much we may be hurting, his hurt and pain is magnified.
My dad has been stuck in the house on the most part taking care of his wife (my mom) and now that she's gone I feel he's somewhat lost and although we visit as often as we can, he's lonely, so I decided to share the wetlands with him and my brother, who is staying with my dad. We walked all about the area while I shared with him the local wildlife. I explained the various birds and what they do and he had a great time watching the pelican fish. He also had the opportunity to see a few snowy white egrets fighting over territory, which you'll see below. This was much needed and I can see the enjoyment on his face. I must make it a point to bring him out here more often, if not just to get outside with some fresh air.
This next group of shots were taken on a different day. I've been trying to get out during the morning hours to see the pelicans, who have been very active, fishing, but my heart is and will always be with the evening. I love that time of the day and the activity around the wetlands.
Here are some shots from my first in a long time evening visit (walkabout) to the wetlands.
