High School Soccer - Millikan Boys Varsity vs Cabrillo

High School Soccer

My first sporting event for 2017

Covered the Millikan Varsity Boys vs Cabrillo game, which was held at Millikan High School.  We've been having a lot of rain in So. Cal, which is a very good thing, but the clouds opened up and provided me with some great light for this game.  It was great being out there shooting some soccer, which I haven't done much of lately.

For this game I used my Canon 7D mark II along with my 300 f/2.8L IS lens.

Please enjoy these highlights from the game.

Poly Boys Varsity Soccer vs Cabillo

I'm quite a bit behind here and haven't posted in some time, so about two weeks ago I was asked to cover the varsity Poly boys soccer game against Cabrillo at Poly High.

This was a very close game and a fun to shoot.  I am happy with what I ended up with, but felt I didn't do as good as I should have, but that is just me.

The game was tied 1-1 during the last few minutes when Cabrillo made an attempt on Poly's goal.  I was able to get the shot just as it was called a non-goal due to off sides.  You can see in the shot (last shot) that the ref was blowing his whistle calling hte foul.  Not the best angle, but a good shot.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the shots.

Lakewood Varsity Girls Soccer vs Cabrillo

Well my week long vacation is over.  I'd love to say I enjoyed the time and relaxation, but then that wouldn't be true.  If it wasn't for having the option to get out and shoot a game and a few sunsets it would have been a total bummer.

For this game it was overcast and rainy, but I really needed to get out and shoot, so I checked the schedule and saw that the Lakewood girls were playing at home, so it was game on.

Having some dark overcast skies means pushing that ISO to keep the speed up, but I've never been known to stay away from high ISO's.  I started at an ISO of 400 and then quickly pushed it to 800 and then 1250.

It was needed and felt great to be out.  Below you'll find some of my favorites from the game.

Lakewood Varsity Soccer vs Cabrillo

Was asked to cover yesterday's Lakewood Varsity Soccer vs Cabrillo game at Lakewood High and glad I decided to shoot it.  It was such a great afternoon / early evening to be out shooting.  The weather was perfect.

It was a very close game with some great action, which almost always occurred in spots where I couldn't capture it, but I was able to leave with some nice shots.

Here are my favorites from the game.

Girls Varsity Soccer - Lakewood vs Cabrillo

Two days in a row of perfect weather to be outside shooting sports. Wednesday I was off and covered a soccer game, while Thursday - the day of this game - I had to work. Stuck inside an office with no windows and not seeing the outside until it was time to go home (my usual work day). Once I heard the weather was like the day prior (Wednesday) I decided to use a few vacation hours and leave work early to shoot another soccer game. I am so pleased I did, as it was a great afternoon to simply be outside and being outside shooting action is the perfect day for me.

So enjoy another set of high school soccer.

Lakewood Girls Jr. Varsity Soccer vs Cabrillo

Made it out to one of the Jr. Varsity games this Thursday. For most girls varsity is the last soccer they will play so I put more emphasis on the varsity team than I do with the frosh and JV teams when taking action shots and that I can only get out for so many games. So I now have all three levels of Lakewood girls soccer covered. Now it's just the icing on the cake. I'll make a couple more varsity games to get some shots that I want to round out my DVD that I'll be putting together for them.

So with all that said, here are some action shots from the game.
