Just thought I share some fun stuff

I like trying different things, especially with composites.  So just recently I made a couple of composites for a friends son, whom I took pictures of while he was learning to surf.  This first she really liked a bunch and ordered a 30x40 Gallery Wrap :) .  I do have to say though I'm a little partial to the second version more.

I don't know why it did, but I remember seeing a friend on facebook showing some shots she did this splatter technique on.  I remember trying it out back then, but just wasn't happy with it and moved on, but recently I looked up a tutorial on youtube and watch how the splatter technique was done and tried my hand at it again.

This time was pleased with my first version, the flower below, so I tried a sports shot I had with a background layered composite I had purchased some time ago.  I really like how that came and will have to try this in the future with some football shots.

My Favorites of 2012

Another year has come and gone and now its time to reflect on what I did with my photography.  Am I famous and know throughout the world?  Well no, and to be honest, I don't care.  Am I where I want to be with my photography?  The answer to that question is a simple yes, yes I am.

I don't do what I do for anything other than my enjoyment.  Yes I do make a little bit of money doing what I love, but that's not the focus.  The focus is my love, my passion, in being out and shooting.  Now if you follow me then you already know what I'm known for, and that my sports action photography, but I don't let that stop me from trying different things, weather it's for me, a friend, or a client, I try to give them the best I can and something they can be proud of hanging on their wall.

So let me share with you my favorite shots from this past year.  Are these my best, well that's a matter of opinion, I will say these stand out to me for one reason or another.

Hope you all had a wonderful year and I look forward to seeing where this new year takes us all.

Training

 This past Tuesday I assisted our training unit up at Burro Canyon in Azusa.  They had some individuals coming out to test some ballistic plates and helmets and wanted some video coverage as well as some still shots of them conducting their training.

How could I pass on this, leave my office to head up to the hills for some shooting and photography, the perfect day.

There are a few shots where you might be curious as to why were shooting from that position.  Police officers encounter a vast range situations where they are forced to defend themselves or others with deadly force.  During this officers may find themselves in various positions while confronting suspects, it is those position where we much feel comfortable shooting from.  So with that said, enjoy something different.

I'll start with a few general shots of the range and targets.

For the shots of them actually shooting I wanted not only to show what they were doing but capture some action in the process.  In this shot below you can see the expended round as it ejected.

I mostly shot video with the ballistic plates and helmet, but did get this shot of the mushroomed round exiting out of the helmet.  The round entered center of helmet and exited towards the top.

Yep that's correct, I've been officially published.

Approx eight months ago I was contacted by Bellwether Media regarding a picture posted on my blog, which they were interested in. I was informed they publish children books and were in the process of writing a child's book on volleyball and they wanted to use a picture I took during a Long Beach Middle School championship game depicting a volleyball set.

Needless to say I was a bit excited and responded back. After going back and fourth a bit we worked out a deal in which they would use two of my pictures in their children's Volleyball book. You are able to view the first few pages of the book and my two action shots are on the last page (set / spike).

When asked how they found me they said they did a google search for "Sports Action Photography" finding my blog and were impressed with my action photography. Now that is what I love to hear and it really shows there are other people looking at my blog besides friends and family.

MMA Project

I thought I'd share a project I'm working on with my two brother-in-laws. Don't really want to say what it is until it's a bit further along.

I will say that we got together this last weekend and took some pictures of one of my brother-in-laws and nephew, who both take jujitsu. These are pictures of those them displaying jujitsu holds and movements, which with a bit of photoshop magic (magnetic lasso / magic wand / and multiple layers) I ended up with these.

This is the first time I've tried to do this and have to say that I'm rather please with the results. I'm thinking if your into Martial Arts these would make some nice wall prints. Hummmmm, you never know.

I got my Wings

If you have been following my blog you know I play an online game called 2moons. For most players, including myself, getting your wings is like a rite of passage. When a player attains the level of 102 he can perform a quest. At the completion of the quest you get wings. Now each player gets different wings, with the bagi (my character) getting these black demon wings. For me it was a big day, sort of like getting off probation.

So here is a screenshot of Alric Majir with his wings.

Halloween

I know it's late but here are a few Halloween shots from the on-line game I play called 2moons. They were running a special where you could get a package that would increase your experience, making the leveling a bit faster. There was also a Halloween mask that my character could wear, which is this pumpkin and hatchet.
