Women's Rugby

This past Saturday I was able to shoot some women's rugby.  Now r)ugby is a tough sport to play and I give these ladies all the credit in the world for getting out there and playing.

I've been covering the Belmont Shores women's rugby team for a couple of years now and heard they were having a game at Cal State Long Beach.  So as I normally do I arrived early and I'm glad I did as I saw that Cal State Long Beach has started a women's rugby team and they were having a practice game against USC.  Now from what I understand USC didn't have their jerseys so they borrowed jersey's from CSLB (White jersey's).  I made contact with the coach, who used to coach and play for the Belmont Shores team and hopefully I'll get prior notice to future games so I can come out and shoot.

The first few shots are from the CSLB vs USC game.

This next set of shots is from the Belmont Shores game as they played against the Seattle Breakers.  Belmont had a rough game with the breakers and only had a couple of drives towards the end zone, making it a hard game to get them in action (more defensive).

Below you will find several shots from that game.

7's Rugby Tournament

I attended a local 7's rugby tournament put on by the Women's Belmont Shores Rugby team at El Dorado Park this past Saturday.

After all the wildlife shooting I've been doing it was great to get out and shoot some sports.  Not only was it nice shooting sports, or even rugby, which I have covered for two years now, it was a great morning to be out.

Although I've done some shooting for the Belmont Shores Women's Rugby team in the past, for this tournament I was basicly out for me and wandered around from game to game capturing some action and just getting back into some good old sports shooting.

So take a look and let me know what you think.

Belmont Shores Women's Rugby

This last Sunday I had the opportunity to shoot some women's rugby. I have been capturing these girls in action during the last two years and it's always a pleasure to watch them and capture the intensity in which they play. During this game Belmont Shores played against Las Vegas.

Although the clouds were somewhat dark and looming it was a great day to just be outside shooting, I couldn't have asked for a better day. Here are my favorites from the game.

Women's Rugby - Belmont Shores vs San Diego

Had the opportunity to shoot a little women's rugby this last Saturday. It was a great day to be outside and a great day to shoot some action. Below you find some shots of the game.

I used both my 300 f/2.8, which had a 1.4x attached, and a 70-200 f/2.8 for this game.

Belmont Shores Women's Rugby vs Long Beach Coast

Belmont Shores Women's Rugby.
Last year while looking for a rugby team to to shoot to add to my portfolio I found this women's team, which was local. After making contact with the teams manager I attended a game and shot some action. Unfortuintly I found them late in the season and was only able to attend one game, which meant I had to wait a year for their next season. Well lucky for me they have a fall season and have two local games.
The first local game was against Long Beach Coast Women's Rugby. Here are some shots from this frist game. The next game will be next Sunday. I wasn't too happy with the action I obtained from this game. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with the results, but it's just not what I wanted. I was hoping for some harder action with greater expression. Hopefully next Sunday I can get some better action and share here.
I'm still learning the game and not sure about many of the terms used in rugby. These first two shots are when one team throws the ball in (somewhat like soccer). They have to throw it down the middle of each team and each team will raise one or two of their players up in an attempt to get the ball back. So enjoy and hopefully I'll have more to post next week.

Here's some of the action of women's rugby.

These girls play a tough game and can get down and dirty with the best of them.

Making a fast run for daylight and the endzone

Just not quite fast enough

Just a couple of running action with some nice facial expressions.
