Welcome to my blog. Looking through my posts you will find that I love and have a passion for photography and although my expertise so to speak is in Sports Action, I have been getting into wildlife and senior portraits. No matter what I'm shooting I want to bring my client the best possible shot I can and give them / you a photograph that you will cherish for a lifetime. If your looking for someone to capture your child in action, to show the intensity and emotion in which your child plays, look no further. Just drop me a line (e-mail) at homerkenpo@aol.com. I cover most areas in Southern Califoria.

Long Beach MIddle School Soccer Championships

Championship soccer is what this post is about, but this year it was done with a twist.  Now last year I missed covering this event and wasn't aware of a change.  That change being both division I & II games being played at the same time.  That's good and bad, good in that instead of this event lasting until 3-4pm, it was finished by noon.  Now the down side - instead of having the ability to cover the whole game I was left with shooting a half and then heading over to the other field to cover a half there.

What does this all mean, well not really much  except I didn't get shots of most of the players, but in fact simply shot for action as best I could.

So enjoy the shots.

San Marcos Soccer

This past Saturday I took a drive out towards Oceanside to shoot some soccer.  A good friend and photographer (Shelly Rosen Photography), whom I admire, has two boys who are currently playing soccer.  So I went out to hang out with a fellow photographer and shoot some soccer (perfect Saturday).

The day ended with us meeting up with another photographer (Peter Tellone - aka "Moose") for dinner at a local casino.  Had a great time just hanging out and spending some time with friends.

Matt had the first game (green jersey) followed by Jacob.  Hope you all enjoy the shots as much as I did taking them.

Long Beach Middle School Boys & Girls Soccer Championships

I covered the Long Beach Middle School Division I & II Boys & Girls Soccer Championships held at Long Beach Wilson High School this past Saturday. Four solid games of soccer under an overcast sky, which is what prefer when shooting sports (life's natural diffuser).

The games started at 9am with the boys division II Chubberley vs Lindsey, then the boys division I Marshall vs Lindbergh, followed by the girls division II Chubberley vs Newcomb and ending with the girls division I Stanford vs Hughes.

It was a long day and although I did end up with some nice shots, I wasn't happy with the amount of nice shots. As the games progressed parents and fans began filling in along the sidelines limiting my shooting positions. I ended up positioning myself along the corners to get the different angles.

I'll start with some sportraits of the goalies followed by a few of my favorites.

U9 Boys / Girls Soccer

This last Saturday I went out to shoot some youth soccer for a local league. I covered both the boys and girls U9 game. Unfortunately neither team did very well, which made it a bit hard to get some nice action shots of the teams I was shooting. Most of the action was going away from me or while the team I was covering was defending their goal (not a lot of open field action with either team), although I was still able to come away with some decent action shots.
