CIF Wild Card Playoff - Lakewood vs Agoura Girls Soccer

Through my contact with the Long Beach Gazette and Daily Breeze I was asked if I could cover Lakewood's game against Agoura in their first round of the CIF playoffs - Wild Card bracket.  Of course I said yes.  I love shooting the playoff rounds as they do tend to be high action games as this is the end of the road for one of the teams.

 

This was a great game.  Although Agoura maintained control most of the game, Lakewood maintained a very tough posture and provided me with some great action.  The game went into overtime followed by penalty kicks, which Lakewood eventually won.

Lakewood Varsity Girls Soccer vs Cabrillo

 

 Well my week long vacation is over.  I'd love to say I enjoyed the time and relaxation, but then that wouldn't be true.  If it wasn't for having the option to get out and shoot a game and a few sunsets it would have been a total bummer.

 

For this game it was overcast and rainy, but I really needed to get out and shoot, so I checked the schedule and saw that the Lakewood girls were playing at home, so it was game on.

 

Having some dark overcast skies means pushing that ISO to keep the speed up, but I've never been known to stay away from high ISO's.  I started at an ISO of 400 and then quickly pushed it to 800 and then 1250.

 

It was needed and felt great to be out.  Below you'll find some of my favorites from the game.

After covering a late soccer game earlier in the week it was nice covering this game during the day.  Its always a pleasure to just be out shooting and when its a great game - all the better.  Here are some of my favorites from the game.

 

Lakewood Varsity Soccer vs Cabrillo

Was asked to cover yesterday's Lakewood Varsity Soccer vs Cabrillo game at Lakewood High and glad I decided to shoot it.  It was such a great afternoon / early evening to be out shooting.  The weather was perfect.

 

It was a very close game with some great action, which almost always occurred in spots where I couldn't capture it, but I was able to leave with some nice shots.

Lakewood Varsity Boys Soccer vs Jordan

Man was it great to just get outside and shoot some sports, I didn't care what.  I've been a bit under the weather since the weekend of New Years and just haven't been excited to get out.  I did get out Sunday evening for some sunsets, but I really needed to get out and shoot something challenging - well like sports.  In this case soccer.

 

I was off, the weather was perfect outside, so I checked our high school schedule for soccer and found a game I could cover.  Oh and when I say the weather was perfect I mean I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt, sorry to all my friends in the mid west.

Lakewood Varsity Girls Soccer vs Jordan

Its been slow for me since football season has ended mostly to I haven't had a big desire to get out on my own to shoot some sports.  Been enjoying the down time and shooting other things, such as my beach sunsets.

 

Recently I was asked by the paper I shoot for to cover a girls soccer game.  Now I was asked to cover Poly and Millikan at Poly, but this game was cancelled due to standing water on the field, so I was directed to Lakewood to cover their game.

Been some time since I've shot some soccer, but it was great being out shooting a game.
