CSLB Men's Basketball vs Pacific

This marks my last game coverage for 2012.  This year has a been a good year for shooting with plenty of opportunities to cover different events / games.

To end the year I covered Cal State Long Beach Men's basketball vs Pacific.  This was a rough game for CSLB who were behind during the first half.  During the second half they came back strong playing a much needed defense as well as pushing their offense.  I love games like this as you can just feel the excitement in the team and fans.

Here are a few of my favorites from the game.  Enjoy.

CSLB Women's Basketball vs Columbia

I was asked to cover Cal State Long Beach Women's basketball followed by the men's game against Pacific.  Had a great time covering the games, but did have to find my mark again.  Had my camera at Canon recently for a sensor cleaning and had to make some late setting changes (something I should have done upon receiving my camera back from Canon).  But once I got dialed in I was back to my comfort zone and simply shooting.

Enjoy the shots.

A Day at Disneyland

Spent the day at Disneyland with my sweetheart (daughter) and dad.  What more can you ask for.  It was a great day to be out shooting, which is what we went for.  Simply to enjoy the park and take pictures along the way.

My dad and Pat haven't been to Disneyland since before California Adventures was constructed, so this was an adventure in itself for them.  We had a great time spending the first part of the day showing them around California Adventures and taking pictures along the way.

I wanted to try my hand at some HDR and brought my trypod, which I left in the car.  I didn't really want to drag it around all day and thought that once it got dark I would retrieve it to take some shots of the lights at night.  So the HDR shots I did take were done hand held.

As the evening drew closer we moved on over to Disneyland to continue our fun.

We had a blast, it was great simply watching my dad enjoy himself on the rides.  I even got him to go on the Tower of Terror ride.

CSLB Men's Basketball vs Fresno State

Was asked to cover Cal State's men's basketball vs Fresno State last night.  Compared to what I normally shoot it's always a pleasure to shoot some basketball at the Pyramid.  Here I'm able to shoot at ISO 1600, with a shutter of 1/500 at f/2.8.

So with my first basketball game of the season I give you the below shots.

Enjoy.

A Day at the Beach

First - This past Saturday was a great day to simply be outside, well at least for me.  We've been having some rain out here in Southern California and from what I've heard the surf was high, so I thought I'd get out Saturday morning to capture some surf action.

Well the wife decided to come out and join me this fine morning.  Leaving the house the skies were dark and overcast with the ground wet from a current slight drizzle.  Knowing I have an Aqua cover for my camera we both ventured out to Seal Beach.

Upon arriving the sky lightened up with the sun starting to shine through in spots.  Now although the first picture shows my wife with her jacket on it was a nice morning.  I was able to stand in the low surf with a shirt and shorts on while I shot.  What a great morning it was, not because the action was all that, but because it was a great day "To simply be out".  Now the surf wasn't that high, but I was able to come away with some nice captures.

After spending the morning at Seal Beach the wife and I went for a nice lunch and then home.  As the day progressed I decided to head out once again for some sunset shots at Huntington Beach.

Drove to Huntington Beach and stayed a couple of hours shooting the pier and coming home with the below shots.  Now these are my attempt at HDR and although this look isn't for everyone I rather like how they came out.

Now its time to make an observation.  People in general have no common sense or respect for others.  During both of these outings I had various people simply walk or stand directly in front of me while shooting.  While shooting the surf I had my 300 f/2.8 along with a 1.4 tele-converter on.  This set up may not be the biggest, but it sure stands out when holding it and yet people would still walk or stand right in front of me.  While shooting sunsets I would use my tripod for long exposures and would get various people walking right in front of me.  I don't let things bother me and just shake it off and wait till their gone and then I will continue doing my thing.  Just wish people would have decency and use their head.

Now I step off my box hoping you enjoyed these shots as much as I did taking them.
