Southern California Bowl - Cerritos College vs Long Beach City College

Well two weeks ago I thought I was done with football, but mid week last week I got a text from my contact with the paper asking if I would cover the Southern California Bowl State Playoff game between Cerritos College and Long Beach City College.  This couldn't have happened at a better time as I really needed to get out and do some shooting, so of course I said yes.

The game was held at Cerritos College, which does have much better lighting than what I'm used to at the local high school.  Its not the greatest, but it is diffidently better.

The only thought I had was hoping this game was better than the last game I covered and neither team disappointed me.  This was a very close game with some sweet action.  They gave me multiple opportunities to get some great shots.  I pretty much only focused on the Long Beach team, but again they didn't disappoint.

Below are my favorites from the game.

Enjoy.

Special Olympic Southern California Fall Games

The Special Olympics, something I've been involved in for the last seven years.  Now normally I only cover the summer games, which are held at Cal State Long Beach in June, but this year I requested to cover the Fall games, which are held at the Fountain Valley Sports Complex.  I requested to cover softball and soccer, which was granted.

I have to say even though the action wasn't as intense as what I observed in the Special Olympic World Games, which was held in Los Angeles this year, it was still a great pleasure and honor to be out covering these athletes in action.

Although I was assigned to softball and soccer, I did manage to take a few shots of tennis.  Below are some of my favorites from the event.  I only covered the games on Saturday.

Please enjoy.

First Round CIF Playoffs - Lakewood vs Mater Dei

Well this is not the way I wanted to end my football season.

Lakewood made the playoffs and was slated to meet Mater Dei at the Santa Ana Bowl.  The last time Lakewood went up against Mater Dei they lost 70 - 10, so needless to say I wasn't expecting much, although I was hoping for more than what I got.  Lakewood had a rough time from the starting kickoff to the end of the game losing 66 - 14.

As a sports photographer this was a tough game to cover.  I wanted to provide the team, their website, and the local papers some good action, but that's hard to get when the team your covering is having a rough time running and passing the ball.  I was able to walk away with some nice shots, but they were hard to come by.

Below you find my favorite shots from the game.  Here's until next year.

Morning at the Wetlands

With football season going on I haven't had a lot of opportunities to hit the wetlands, but recently I took a local bird photography workshop which had two parts.  The first part was classroom and the second part an early morning outing at the wetlands to shoot the Pelicans, which have been very active.

This first group of shots were from that morning.  Normally I go to the wetlands during the evening, so being there in the morning was different but enjoyable.  Although I was a bit tired as I had a football game the night prior, which always means a late night for me, I did enjoy the morning.

I spent most of my time along the foot bridge, but after a hour or so I went on my own to see if anything else was out.  I did manage to see a few Osprey, but unfortunately they were in a position that offered only bad light, so no shots made the share list here - sorry.

Day one

Manged to get out for a second morning and the below shots are from that outing.

Hope you enjoy.
