Welcome to my blog. Looking through my posts you will find that I love and have a passion for photography and although my expertise so to speak is in Sports Action, I have been getting into wildlife and senior portraits. No matter what I'm shooting I want to bring my client the best possible shot I can and give them / you a photograph that you will cherish for a lifetime. If your looking for someone to capture your child in action, to show the intensity and emotion in which your child plays, look no further. Just drop me a line (e-mail) at homerkenpo@aol.com. I cover most areas in Southern Califoria.

Lakewood JV Football vs Millikan

This was a very tough game for Millikan as Lakewood just dominated this game from the opening kick-off, which resulted in a fumble by Millkan on their own 8 yd line, leading to Lakewood's first touch-down in what was going to be a very long game for Millikan.

Here are some a few of my favorite shots from the game.

Lakewood Varsity Football vs Cabrillo & Jordan

First let me say that I haven't really cared for the shots I have obtained during the last two night games I've shot, hence me combining these two games into one post. My other issue is I'm still getting used to processing my pictures with Lightroom 3 on my new lap top. The pictures look pretty good on my screen, but once I get them uploaded they are much darker. Need to take care of this ASAP.

Any hoot, these first two shots are from the Cabrillo game with the remaining shots from the Jordan game, which was this last Friday. So enjoy.

Below shots are from the Jordan game.

Since I haven't been happy with the action shots I've obtained during these two games, I thought I'd close on a much better note by posting two cheerleader shots. These young ladies always give me some very nice shots.

Published

Yep that's correct, I've been officially published.

Approx eight months ago I was contacted by Bellwether Media regarding a picture posted on my blog, which they were interested in. I was informed they publish children books and were in the process of writing a child's book on volleyball and they wanted to use a picture I took during a Long Beach Middle School championship game depicting a volleyball set.

Needless to say I was a bit excited and responded back. After going back and fourth a bit we worked out a deal in which they would use two of my pictures in their children's Volleyball book. You are able to view the first few pages of the book and my two action shots are on the last page (set / spike).

When asked how they found me they said they did a google search for "Sports Action Photography" finding my blog and were impressed with my action photography. Now that is what I love to hear and it really shows there are other people looking at my blog besides friends and family.

U9 Boys / Girls Soccer

This last Saturday I went out to shoot some youth soccer for a local league. I covered both the boys and girls U9 game. Unfortunately neither team did very well, which made it a bit hard to get some nice action shots of the teams I was shooting. Most of the action was going away from me or while the team I was covering was defending their goal (not a lot of open field action with either team), although I was still able to come away with some decent action shots.

Lakewood Varsity Football vs Poly

I'm going on five years of capturing football action at Lakewood and the one game that these two schools, let alone the league, look forward to is Lakewood and Poly. This will give the winner bragging rights for the coming year and an almost guarantee league champ title.

This brings us to this weeks game. Although this was scheduled as a home game for Lakewood, the game was played at Veteran's Stadium in Long Beach due to the expected amount of fan participation. Now I must say I was excited and somewhat nervous for Lakewood, but that quickly changed. As the game progressed it was obvious that Poly came to play some football and bring home a win. This was a very tough came to shoot as I watched Poly control the game both running and passing. Although Lakewood attempted to mount a comeback, they just couldn't get past Poly's defense.

I know there is going to be a lot of trash talking on the various sports blogs / sites in Long Beach, but I must say congratulations to Poly. You all played a great game and deserved the win. Hopefully you and Lakewood will meet again in the playoffs. Either way it's bound to be a great game of high school football.

Let's start with a couple of shots from the cheer leaders.
