Welcome to my blog. Looking through my posts you will find that I love and have a passion for photography and although my expertise so to speak is in Sports Action, I have been getting into wildlife and senior portraits. No matter what I'm shooting I want to bring my client the best possible shot I can and give them / you a photograph that you will cherish for a lifetime. If your looking for someone to capture your child in action, to show the intensity and emotion in which your child plays, look no further. Just drop me a line (e-mail) at homerkenpo@aol.com. Lakewood JV Football vs La Serna

The preseason has started and the first game finds me at Lakewood for their JV game.  This year I'm not going to get into any politics or scores, this is all about shooting the action and getting the best shots.  For my first full game of the season I'm very pleased with my end results and hope to only improve as the season goes.

Enjoy my opening shots.

Tonight I'll be covering the Varsity under the lights at Gahr, looking forward to getting out there.

Huntington Beach

So yesterday while at work I stepped away from my desk and went outside.  I work 10 hours days and sometimes just have to step away and get off my butt.  So I went up to the roof of our parking structure and noticed the clouds.  They just covered the sky with a very nice blue behind them.  This was about 1pm and I thought I would take a drive to Huntington Beach after work to take some sunset shots.  Well things don't always turn out as planned.

After work and while driving home on the freeway the clouds still looked pretty good, although they were less then what I saw earlier.  So once home I got my gear together and then the wife and I took the drive to Huntington Beach, but you know once I got there the clouds were pretty much gone.  Now I just can't make this drive and leave without taking some shots, so I took a different angle with these shots.

Scrimmage - Lakewood vs Servite

Football has officially started for me and it starts with a scrimmage game against Servite.

I was excited to get out and start football season, but this was a rough start.  Servite dominated this game and made it very tough to get some nice running shots, as most of our attempts for yardage were stopped at the scrimmage line, but as I always do, I was able to walk away with some nice shots.

So for my first football post of the season, here is Lakewood football.

Enjoy

Just some fun - Composites

Just thought I share some fun stuff

I like trying different things, especially with composites.  So just recently I made a couple of composites for a friends son, whom I took pictures of while he was learning to surf.  This first she really liked a bunch and ordered a 30x40 Gallery Wrap :) .  I do have to say though I'm a little partial to the second version more.

I don't know why it did, but I remember seeing a friend on facebook showing some shots she did this splatter technique on.  I remember trying it out back then, but just wasn't happy with it and moved on, but recently I looked up a tutorial on youtube and watch how the splatter technique was done and tried my hand at it again.

This time was pleased with my first version, the flower below, so I tried a sports shot I had with a background layered composite I had purchased some time ago.  I really like how that came and will have to try this in the future with some football shots.

So I say goodbye to the Wetlands - for now

This past weekend I made what could be my last trip to the wetlands, that is until football is over, but then again you never know.

Any hoot, my sister has been wanting to come out with me, but she tends to be pretty busy, so I finally talked her into going out this past Saturday and she brought her youngest - Joe Joe.

We had a very nice evening out, which ended with some Marris Pizza (The best).

There really wasn't much activity, but I did see a couple of Kestrels hunting and spent some time trying to get some shots of them.  They just didn't want me getting to close - man I need a bigger lens.

Now get ready for some football.

Lillian's Baptism

A couple of weekends ago I was asked to shoot a baptism, nothing special, they just wanted some nice shots of the ceremony, oh and my daughter was going to be Lillian's God Mother.

I took quite a few but these really stood out as my favorites.  What a beautiful girl she is.

Sunset at Huntington Beach

This post is about doing what you want to do.

I've been wanting to hit the beach and shoot some more sunsets at the pier, but due to work, lack of clouds, or to much cloud cover (dark overcast skies), and now that it's summer, way too many people, so I haven't made the drive.  That was until this past Friday when we had some nice cloud cover with a great blue sky behind it.

Now you never really know what your going to get until to get out there and the sun starts going down.  Boy did the heaven's put on a show that night.  The colors were spectacular with bright orange / yellow / and reds in the sky and clouds.  Although the beach was very crowded with family enjoying a wonderful day, there were also a bunch of photographers out doing exactly what I was.

So I spent the evening shooting away and walking up and down the beach looking for spots that provided me with minimal people / photographers in it.

These shots are in progression as the sun went down.  You can see how the colors changed the lower the sun went.  It was simply beautiful.  A lovely evening to be out and a fantastic evening to be out shooting.  I am so happy I made the drive.

Enjoy the shots.
