Lakewood Varsity Football vs Millikan

This was a game that I initially thought could go either way. Millikan beat poly in a double overtime game by one point last week, which was a huge upset for poly. I was hoping for a win and that our boys played some great football that their capable of.

During the first quarter and our initial drive we drew first blood, which was followed by a return kick run by Millikan to tie the game, but that was all Millikan had. From that point on it was all Lakewood. Millikan attempted to get something started but could not. Lakewood on the other hand played a great game with defense stopping Millikan on every attempt.

Lakewood ended up winning 60-7 on their home coming night. Next week we have a buy, which is followed by our last league game against Wilson.

Here are a few highlights from the game.

Lakewood Freshmen Football vs Millikan

This marks my last freshmen game for the season. No more until next year as this was their last home game. I still have one JV game and a minimal of three varsity games left.

So it's been great shooting all of these young athletes, whom I hope to see next year on either the JV or Varsity squad.

Gymnastic Sectionals

My niece, who has been taking gymnastics for several years now, recently attended Sectionals for level 5. I'm very new to gymnastics's and not familiar at all with capturing the action. There were limited spots where I could shoot from that were unobstructed and the lighting was decent, but still not that great. I was only able to get some shots of her on the beam and uneven bars, which you'll see below.

Here she is with her mom and dad. I'm sure her mom will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe she placed 1st on vault, and 6th on floor. I don't recall what her final total score was, but she did make state, which will be held in Long Beach in November.

And here I am with the champion.

Torrance Football

Recently I was asked by a team parent of Torrance Football if I could come out and take some action shots. They put together individual books containing various shots of the players and give them to the players as gifts. My newphew plays for Torrance so I thought I'd come out so that I can get some action shots of him playing. I decided I would give them various other shots I take during the game so they can put their gift books together.

Here are a few of my favorites from the game.

My nephew starts as defensive end. I was able to get a few decent shots of him in action.

My sister in the middle

My nephew's girlfriend, who was part of the home coming court.

Lakewood Freshmen Football vs Jordan

Here are some shots from their game against Jordan.

During the game my wife, who was with me waiting for the end, told me about some birds overhead. I took a look and saw a group of crows dive bombing a hawk. I took a couple of shots and after a very tight crop, here are two to share.

FC Long Beach Girls U17 Soccer

I've recently been asked by a friend to capture some action shots of his daughters who play on his U17 Club soccer team. Both of them play on the varsity soccer team at their school as well. In the process of shooting his daughters I did capture some action of a few of the other players as well.

This shot was taken during a penalty kick.

The following shots are of the two young ladies I was asked to shoot. I have to say that I wasn't pleased with what I ended up with. Both girls played a good distance apart and it seemed that every time they were involved in some good action they were either turned away from me or someone was standing between them and I, but what do you do. Some things just can't be controlled. I think I'll try to get out again and focus on one girl during each half.

Lakewood JV Football vs Cabrillo

Here are some action shots from the JV game.

Some open field runs

"FUN"

While the game was playing a huge flock (I guess that's what you would call it) of parrots came flying by the field. I was able to get a couple of shots off during their fly-by.
