Long Beach Middle School Boy's League Track Meet

Today was the Long Beach Middle School's Boys
League meet at Lakewood High.  I wasn't able to get there earlier enough for the field events (high jump / long jump) due to a soccer game I shot.

Another perfect day to be outside, especially in shorts, considering a lot of my photographer friends are dealing with snow and very, very cold weather.

Here are my favorites from today's meet.

Long Beach Middle School Boys Practice Track Meet

Around the end of football middle school track usually starts and this year the boys go first.

So last Saturday I got up early to head to Lakewood High and cover the Long Beach Middle School's Boys practice track meet.  I was able to get some shots of the long and high jumps prior to leaving to cover a soccer game for a friend.  Once the soccer game was over I returned to Lakewood to finish the meet.

It was a great day to simply be out shooting.

Here are some of my favorites from that day's meet.

"K" Times 3 (Triplets)

The day I was so stressed about has come and gone.

A couple of months ago I was contacted by the mother of these three beautiful young ladies inquiring about senior portraits.  I do have prior experience photographing these three girls, but it was for softball and they were much younger, now their high school seniors and will soon be off to college.  Where does the time go.

Needless to say when their mom asked about taking the portraits I was excited, but very nervous at the same time.  I'm a sports shooter and although I've done some portraits in the past, its just not my main thing.  What made me ever more nervous was the fact their triplets.  I would think a professional portrait photographer would simply schedule them individually, but not me.  My thought was to spend some time shooting and do this at one time.

So the time came for the shoot and with the help of my sweetheart (daughter) we all enjoyed an afternoon at Yorba Regional Park shooting.  It was a perfect day to be out shooting and I couldn't have asked for better subjects to shoot.

I thank these young ladies mother for giving me the opportunity to photography them and how can I not thanks these beautiful girls for being such great subjects to shoot.  You made the afternoon perfect.

Lakewood Varsity Football vs Alemany - First Round CIF Playoffs

Lakewood made it to the first round of CIF playoffs and was matched against Alemany in Mission Hills.  I left work early so I can avoid traffic during the drive to the valley, which is normally a terrible drive.  Got there a few hours early so I decided to grab a bite and relax since I had plenty of time.

Lakewood took 3rd in our league while Alemany took first in theirs.  To be honest I didn't expect this game to go well at all and expected Alemany to just destroy us.  Not that I didn't think our team had the ability to win, but based on the way they've played this season I didn't have high hopes.

Needless to say Lakewood probably played their best game against Alemany and although we lost 48-23, the score doesn't reflect how both the offense and defense played, and they played hard.  I'm sure Alemany didn't expect Lakewood to put up the fight they did.

Although we all went home knowing our football season was over, it was a great game and Lakewood should keep their heads up high knowing they gave it their all on the field.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the game.

A Lost Friend - Bolsa Chica Wetlands

Since football has started, well it's actually almost over, I haven't had much time if any to go out to the wetlands.  So recently I contacted a friend and along with his wife we went out to Bolsa Chica for a nice evening walk and shoot about.

As expected there wasn't much activity, but there were a few brown Pelicans fishing next to the foot bridge.  So while they put on their acrobatic show I did what I do and took some shots.  After a bit we all walked to the middle of the wetlands where we spent some time talking and watching a couple of terns.

Although the evening wasn't full of activity, it was nice to get out and visit with a friend.

Lakewood Varsity Football vs MIllikan - "The Hamilton Trophy"

Our last game of league play and a must win if we wanted to make the play offs.  Millikan came to play and stop us from reaching the play offs and although they gave it an outstanding effort, in the end they failed.  Lakewood played a tough game staying ahead of Millikan keeping the Hamilton trophy at home for another year.

This was an interesting game to shoot.  During the fourth quarter we had some very low fog roll in, which although was kind of cool, gave a rough haze to some of my shots.  Also there was a ton of moisture in the air causing everything to be wet.

This first shot is the football program cover which I designed for the game, which was dedicated to the seniors.

The rest of some of my favorites from the game.

Enjoy.

Lakewood JV Football vs Millikan

Here we are at the last JV game of the season.  I wanted to get some shots of the JV in their away jersey's so I traveled to Millikan High to cover their game, which was rather exciting, but not a lot of action.  Well maybe I should say this wasn't one of my better games for capturing the action.

Here are my favorites from yesterday's game.
