Lakewood Varsity Football vs Leuzinger High

This is the last preseason for Lakewood. This week they found themselves on the road pitted against Leuzinger High in Lawndale. This is a new school in Lakewood's path for an undefeated preseason start.

With a new school came uncertainties for Lakewood in the first quarter, but once they got the ball rolling they didn't stop and finished the preseason with a 44-0 victory over Leuzinger.

Now sit back and enjoy some shots from the game.

Now what is Friday Night Lights without the cheerleaders, well it's nothing to be honest. So here are some shots of the girls who give it their all each night while boys are on the grid iron.

Lakewood JV Football vs Leuzinger High

This marks the last pre-season game before Lakewood kicks off their league play against Compton next week.

This was my frist game for JV and it was a total domination. The school they were playing didn't have a freshmen team so both JV and freshmen played in this game, although the freshmen saw a great deal to game time - playing most of the first half. Even with freshmen playing in this game Lakewood did as they pleased against Leuzinger as the picture below shows (69-0).

I do have to take my hat off to team and coaching staff from Leuzinger. Even though they were dominated by Lakewood, I never heard one complaint voiced frustration from either the coaches or athletes. I have seen team lose by a great deal less and acted much worse.

Now enjoy some shots from the game.

Lakewood Varsity Football vs Mayfair

Week three for varsity finds them competing against Mayfair for the Milk Bucket Trophy, which is currently in possession of Lakewood.

A quick shot of the team captains.

And now to the action. I started without the flash, but during the second half I put it on. Not really happy, oh who am I kidding, I'm not happy at all with my flash shots. I really need to get a better grasp of using the flash for these games as it's not going to get any better. With that said, here are some shots from the game.

Lakewood Freshmen vs Mayfair

Yesterday was the third week into pre-season games, which finds Lakewood against Mayfair.

Below are the highlights from the freshmen game at Lakewood High School. I'll start with what I like to call a few "Sportraits"

Do you see it, a little facemask on the below shot.

Lakewood Varsity Football vs St John Bosco

Week two found our varsity away at St John Bosco for what was expected to be a tough game. Well Bosco or Lakewood didn't let your fans down, it turned out to be a tough game for Lakewood won over Bosco with a 27-7 victory.

Although Lakewood ended the game with a 20 point lead, they worked hard to get each gained yard and earned point. Great game to watch and shoot.

Once again I decided to leave the flash in my bag. Settings were ISO 3200, f/2.8, and a shutter around 1/250 to 1/320 by the second half. Still had to use my old reliable 70-200 f/2.8 on this as the 300 was still out at Canon for repair.
