I've been avoiding this since it's been a long time since I've shot this level of volleyball play, but this last Friday I decided to finally head out to cover another college volleyball game. This was Cal State Long Beach men's volleyball vs Stanford in the pyramid at Cal State. My biggest apprehension was not knowing where to shoot from. Now I've done a lot of middle school volleyball, but in middle school I have a lot of freedom as to where I can stand to take my shots. With this being college I knew (from prior experience with Pepperdine) that my spots were limited, I just had to see what was available and do my thing.
With that said I went to the game and basically moved to various spots to give me different angles on the action and to highlight different players. Now I just need to get used to the speed in which college volleyball is played. I've always given the advice when asked - Don't follow the ball, watch a particular player and wait for the action to come to them, especially with digs, this holds so true. Now I may not have obtained the shots I really wanted, I did come away with some nice action.
So take a look and let me know what you think.
