Welcome to my blog. Looking through my posts you will find that I love and have a passion for photography and although my expertise so to speak is in Sports Action, I have been getting into wildlife and senior portraits. No matter what I'm shooting I want to bring my client the best possible shot I can and give them / you a photograph that you will cherish for a lifetime. If your looking for someone to capture your child in action, to show the intensity and emotion in which your child plays, look no further. Just drop me a line (e-mail) at homerkenpo@aol.com. I cover most areas in Southern Califoria.

CIF Track Finals

This past Saturday was the CIF Track Finals at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC).  I was there on behalf of the Long Beach Gazette to cover our Moore League participants.  Field events started at 10:30am and I was there ready to go at 10am, making for the beginning of a very long and hot day.

When I first started photographing sports action I would tell people my favorite sport to cover was girls softball, and although I still love to cover it track has become my favorite to shoot.  When I'm on the track field I'm like a kid in a candy store.  There is just so much going on all around you that sometimes I just don't know where to start.  well that's not entirely true, but you get the idea.

So while I waited for athletes from the Moore League to do their thing I moved from one event to the next to get various shots.  When doing this I'm looking for those athletes who excel in the event their competing in to give me my peak action shots.  I not only look for peak action, but expression, or simply a look.  Like this first shot of a female long jumper from Sera High.  I loved their uniforms and the Superman S on the front of their jerseys.  Made for a visually nice shot.

Just for the record, I started my day at 8:30am (leaving the house) and ended it at 9pm (arriving back home).  I was actually at Mt. SAC from 10am to about 7pm.  So take a look and hopefully you'll enjoy the shots as much as I did taking them.

CIF Playoffs - Girls Softball - Lakewood vs Dana Hills

Covered the first round of CIF playoffs for girls softball at Lakewood High with Lakewood against Dana Hills.  I don't shoot as much softball as I'd like, but do enjoy it once I'm out shooting it.

Here are some shots from their game, which Lakewood ended up winning 4-3.  Enjoy

Bolsa Chica Wet Lands

Another outing to Bolsa Chica.  Last time I was out I saw quite a few Skimmers so I thought I'd get out in hopes of getting some shots of them fishing and although they weren't in the fishing mood, I was able to get a few shots of them as they flew past me.

Below you'll find three shots of a tern on a wooden railing.  Well the first shot was at an ISO of 4.0 with the two after that being at f/2.8.  Not that it was intended, although I am trying to close my aperture a bit to get more keepers with my bird shots.  Once I saw that I didn't have my ISO wide open, I changed it for the tern to take away from a background of cars (highway was in the background) so the focus will be on the tern.

Enjoy.
